Greeley Closure Updates: February 11, 2025

The Duran section of the Poudre River Trail (between 59th Avenue and 71st Avenue in Greeley):

This section has been closed for an extended amount of time for major repairs and improvements. The estimated re-open date is mid-March, 2025.

Cold temps had delayed soil compaction and pouring of concrete. As of February 11th, the trail has been poured. They are backfilling the soil on the sides of the trail and cleaning up the site. Depending on the weather, they hope to install new fencing the week of February 17th-21st. There is a chance the trail could open before the end of February. Stay tuned!

The City of Greeley acknowledged that the Duran project has gone past the original expected date of completion. Two factors have contributed to the delay. First, due to the dynamic nature of river systems, the site topography had changed since the construction plans for the project were originally completed, and some of the engineering work had to be re-done to ensure that the project would effectively address erosion. Second, the severe cold weather we had in January delayed the concrete pouring. Thank you for your patience.

  • Extent of closure: 25th Avenue to 35th Avenue.
  • Estimated closure dates: December 9, 2024 to May 31, 2025.

Once complete, the Poudre Ponds will reopen with improved public recreation amenities for fishing and non-motorized recreation, such as kayaks and paddleboards.

The Poudre River Trail will likely open in the Spring or early Summer of 2025 before the ponds are reopened to the public. When the ponds reopen, expect to see several improvements for fishing as well as benches, shade-structures, and additional porta-potty locations.

  • Extent of closure: The entire Poudre Ponds property (Ponds A & B) will be closed at the 35th Avenue gate.
  • Estimated closure dates: December 9, 2024, until late 2025 or early 2026. The Poudre River Trail will likely open in the Spring or early Summer of 2025 before the ponds are reopened to the public.
